This has been a wonderful journey and I am looking forward to where the Lord will lead me.

"They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky.  Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.  Romans 1: 19, 20

My Journey

My Studio is a place of tranquility from a busy world; stepping into it allows me to experience that same tranquility in and through my art. Inspired by the works of Canadian artists Mary Pratt and Robert Bateman, my works give a passionate portrayal of florals and nature with vibrant colours and luminosity.
I didn’t know as a young child, but so many of my fondest memories would go on to shape my identity as an artist and be directly reflected in the work I create.  Having grown up on a dairy farm in southern Ontario, I spent countless hours on outdoor adventures, exploring nature and picking wild flowers. During harvest, the kitchen would be filled with the aroma of canned jars of peaches, pears, and cherries.  Having been raised in a large family of nine children, we didn’t have many luxuries.  At a young age I learned to appreciate the little things in life.  One of my most cherished gifts was a box of Crayola crayons and a colouring book.  I felt great joy in opening  a fresh pack of crayons and seeing all the colours lined up perfectly. This would be the start of endless hours of colouring which developed into time spent drawing and sketching.  My love for the arts continued on throughout my high school years.  I received winning ribbons for pieces entered in local art fairs.
My formal artistic career started later in life. I volunteered for seven years at the Brampton Music Theatre where I painted set designs.  These hours reignited the passion I had in my youth for the arts.  As a self-taught artist, I enrolled in oil painting workshops to sharpen my techniques.  I learned to layer my paintings by blocking in colours to achieve tone and shape. Applying layers allows the oil paint to become more vibrant and allows time to add fine details. Finishing with highlights achieves a sense of depth and high realism.
As a member of the Beaux Arts Brampton Art Gallery I found it exciting to be part of a diverse and vibrant art culture.  The gallery opened many doors for my art work. My works are now accepted in juried show and exhibitions throughout  the Greater Toronto Area.  Many of my paintings have found new homes in Canada, the USA and Europe. I am now an active member of the Colour and Form Society and the Pelham Art Festival.
Our children are fully grown and my husband and I have since returned to our rural Niagara Ontario roots; living, once again, in the countryside and being surrounded by nature’s beauty continues to fuel my inspiration to create.  I have been blessed and fortunate to be able to recapture the joy I experienced in and through nature as a child.  I work to intentionally convert this re-found joy and vibrancy in my pieces.
The Lord has gifted me with this wonderful talent. It is a gift wrapped with many layers and, as I continue to learn and develop as an artist, I continue to unwrap it layer by layer. This gift is one that I love to share with you.  May my journey inspire you.
